underwater fishing camera?

looking for an underwater ice fishing camera. I am thinking about the aqua vu srt. Anyone have any reviews?

I purchased a Aqua-View a few years ago. I have the one that shows water temp and the direction of the camera. I really like using this camera when I'm not sure what my Lowrance graft is showing me. It's pretty neat when you see fish on your graft then drop the camera down and see fish. You will start laughing.
You see fish but can't tell how big they are but it does show everything just as you would see it swimming underwater. When I use the camera I become a little motion sick most people that look into the viewer will feel the same sick feeling. My wife has looked into the view screen for hours and she has never felt sick.... go figure..I look into it for five mintues and feel sick.
Find a friend that will split the cost with you because you will not use it that often or at least I don't use it too often mainly during the winter months when the fish are deeper. Make sure you purchase the one with a cord long enough for your lakes depths. I live in California and our reservoirs are as deep as 300 feet so I purchased the Aqua-View with the 100' cord.

Does anyone have a fishing Camera (Video system)?

I want to get one of the Aqua Vu cameras (or another brand) but I was just wondering if I should get the color one or black and white... Anyone know anything

Obviously, a more expensive color screen would give you some more detail and info but (in my opinion), don't purchase the camera to look specifically for fish.

A camera works well in conjunction with your fish finder when looking for fish holding structure.

For Ice-fishing it's a great tool to find out whats biting your lure/bait.

Don't expect to have great clarity in any type of stained water, (unless your looking to spend big bucks- 600 + $). All the cameras in the $100-$300 range are tough to view in depths over 20 FT, therefore you HAVE to purchase an after market light to attach to your camera, (they cost approx $20-$25). You should also def get the tripod attachment that secures the camera in the direction you want to see, ( because 8 times out of 10 your camera cord will have a kink & will NOT want to turn in the direction you wish). If you intend to use it for scouting structure on a boat, understand that your boat's movement will not allow you to get a great picture of anything. In fact, it is my opinion that they work decent for icefishing but are tough to view any other time.

In my experience, you should "coddle" any camera you decide to purchase because many are just not designed for hardcore usage.

Here are some decent camera's:

Hope this helps ya? Good luck and don't catch'm all!

I need a camera for skateboarding and the VX1000,2000,3000 are a lot of bucks, are there any others?...fish eye capable?

Define Cheap. Cause if you can spend about 1500$ you can get a Canon GL2. (Great Camera)

I was looking to get a vintage camera like a Diana F+ or a Polaroid camera or a fish eye one, can you put the photos on the computer? As on Facebook i have seen pictures people have taken with a fish eye lens

Any film camera that produces a negative can be put on a CD at the time of processing. You can also simply scan your prints with a flatbed scanner like I do with my HP 4850. Polaroid prints will have to be scanned.

Ice fishing underwater camera vs portable sonar?

What is better an underwater camera or a portable sonar?

Definitely a sonar. Underwater cameras are all right but too many people try to use them to find the fish which is a bad idea. There would be holes everywhere. A sonar is great for seeing your bait or lure and seeing how the fish react to it. Sonars are also better at locating the fish and different depths in my opinion. I believe that if you were to get a camera, you should have a sonar to go along with it as you can see how fish react and what they are doing under the ice. So I would go with a sonar alone, or an underwater camera such as an Aqua Vu along with a sonar. Good luck fishin'!

What is the best camera to use for fishing trips?

I want a high quality camera that I can use for other stuff to. I dont want one of those digital cameras that take a long time to set for the picture. I want something that I could switch lenses on also.

One with a fish eye lens

Sorry - just had to do it

The Advantages Of Underwater Fishing Cameras

By Jason Gluckman

See more fish, catch more fish, and have more fun fishing with an underwater fishing camera. You can put yourself eye to eye with the fish in their natural environment. You will be able to identify different species and how they react to your bait presentation. With an underwater fishing camera, the ice angler easily can determine the size and species of fish. (Fish can be detected with sonar, but it cannot identify what kind they are.)

What is the lake bottom like? Sonar can tell you whether the lake bottom is relatively hard or soft, but it's difficult to tell whether the lake bottom is sand, gravel, or small rock. The camera shows the bottom easily and can help avoid problems.

It is also great to just record your fishing adventure so you can bring it home and show all your friends and family.

There are different models of underwater fishing camera and video mechanisms for you to choose from. Use an underwater camera for fishing or diving purposes, or as a supplemental piece of equipment used for ice fishing.

You should be able to see under water from about two feet up to 50 feet. Average viewing distance in fresh water is five to ten feet. In saltwater, the average is seven to fifteen feet.

You can easily attach the underwater fishing camera to a standard down rigger. Using a standard release clip in reverse the camera is attached to the cable just above the cannon ball. The current will make the camera look backwards at your bait while you fish.

For high-speed fishing your underwater fishing camera can be towed through the water on the HST (high-speed tow) accessory. With the HST accessory you can tow the camera up to 12 knots and have your lures drag directly behind the camera to catch any and all strikes on video.

The camera can look straight down or to the side, and even look slightly back up towards the surface. They are fully adjustable and versatile.

There are several options for controlling the camera while in the water. There's a stabilizer fin for high current areas and a camera rotation handle for low current areas. By turning the cable with the handle the camera head will rotate with the cable.

Some underwater fishing cameras have the ability drop cameras with as much as 1000 feet of cable. Beyond 500 feet you have to add special video amplifiers which add cost to the system.

A submersible, waterproof video camera will mount to any standard camera tripod and work just as well above the water for surveillance, sport activities, wild life viewing, swimming pools, and even for security around homes and businesses.
