Underwater Digital Cameras 101 For Landlubbers

First came the camera. Then there was the underwater camera. After that came the digital camera - and now we have underwater digital cameras. underwater digital cameras are ideal for capturing the beauty of the undersea world (or the bottom of your swimming pool if you have that special artistic eye!). They are used by both scientists and scuba divers. Digital cameras come in many well-known brands including Kodak, Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus. Surprisingly enough, the cheapest brands cost less than $200, although prices rise quite steeply for the highest quality cameras.

Some of the advantages of underwater digital cameras include:

- You can plug them into a TV.

- They are smaller and lighter than film cameras

- Bad shots can be easily deleted

- They can change resolution, which is useful for wide-angle photography in low lighting conditions underwater

- They produce better high-resolution shots

- They never run out of film (because they don't use film!)

- They have better depth of field (up to 4 times that of film cameras)

- They feature strobe shutter speeds as fast as 1/800th of a second, much faster than even the best film cameras

- Applications include sea mode, land mode, and external flash mode

Here are some examples of the best underwater digital cameras:

1. The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1000

It has a 2. 8 inch LCD screen and 10 megapixels. Housing is required. Up to 3,2000 ISO. 3x optical zoom lens, and it even includes an anti-shake feature.

2. The Pentax Optio

It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen and 7 megapixels. It requires no additional housing. Usable for up to half an hour in depths of up to 5 feet. It can even be used for shooting underwater videos. Up to 1,600 ISO.

3. Fuji Film FinePix A400

Complete with waterproof housing, 4.2 megapixels. What's more, it's CHEAP - under $200 at the time of this writing).

4. SeaLife DC500

Includes both Land and sea flash modes. 5 megapixels, 3x optical zoom. Features an anti-shake function that compensates for movement by either the photographer or the subject.

The foregoing is only a small smaple of the total range of brands, cameras, and features available for photographers of almost any budget and any level of sophistication.

Memories are created just about anywhere. And when I say anywhere, I mean that memories are even created underwater – so the creation of underwater digital camera.

An underwater digital camera is not just used to capture underwater memories; some professional marine photographers also use underwater digital cameras in their business. Even marine biologists and scientists use underwater digital cameras to capture marine life and thus be able to study the life and properties of the marine life. But I think it is safe to assume that you, my reader, are neither a marine scientist nor a professional photographer. Like me, you are just some photo junkie who wants to capture underwater moments and just cant figure out how without ruining your cameras.

5989485e0e76202f39369fcab5079134 Underwater Digital Camera: Capturing Moments Underwater
Please listen to me when I say that even waterproof cameras cannot withstand underwater photography. To be waterproof is to resist the water in certain levels, submerging in under the water to get the perfect shot is like throwing it out of the window expecting a pick-up truck to pass by and run over it.

Now if you’re really serious about using an underwater digital camera to capture those wacky and funny moments underwater, I suggest that you buy specialty cameras.

There are rarely underwater digital cameras, as cameras are electronic and cannot withstand water and water pressure. The closest electronics has ever got to producing underwater digital cameras are producing underwater casings for digital cameras. These casing will turn your conventional digital camera into an underwater digital camera.

If you are shooting with your underwater digital camera, you need to take note of a few things to help you come up with the best images underwater.

Remember that as you farther under water, light diffuses. This means that your underwater digital camera will produce images darker than those images you took while on land – this is because of the light diffusion the red spectrum seems darker. To avoid this, use white balance come up with natural colors. Also, pictures taken underwater will come up larger than pictures taken on land with the same zoom effect. Be sure to check your underwater digital camera’s viewfinder to check the right picture angle and size that you want.

da714716fc21ac67495860e76fe59c46 Underwater Digital Camera: Capturing Moments UnderwaterAn underwater digital camera with its built-in flash will produce marine show phenomenon. It is a phenomenon wherein your pictures come out as blurry and with white particles floating above it, to avoid this phenomenon it is advisable to use external flash for your underwater digital camera.

Before using your underwater digital camera, submerge the camera in the water first for several seconds then check if there are leaks through the case. Make sure that no grain of sand or piece of hair is stuck in between the seal to make sure that water will not permeate the case and thus wet your camera in the process. It is also advisable to put silica gel or two inside the case of your underwater digital camera as long as they don’t disturb the camera’s operation. (Silica gel will keep the moisture from forming inside your camera case.)

Most underwater digital cameras come with optional lenses. Don’t be afraid to add these lenses to your underwater digital camera kit. Macro lenses will help you capture small things without getting too close and startling your subject.

Also, remember to always wash of salt when you’ve used it under salt water. If the salts are not washed off, in time they will crystallize; act as sands and cause leaks for your camera case. In cases when sands seem to get into the case, they are better washed off with streams of water.

underwater explorers society 2 Capture Your Underwater Memories With An Underwater Digital Camera

Do you like to dive or snorkel? I'll bet you have used those disposable 35mm underwater cameras, haven't you? They are good for taking photos up close and in shallow water but not good for deepwater. What you really need to create and save those underwater memories is an underwater digital camera.

Underwater digital cameras are used by divers all over the world and not just for personal use. Those who make their living from the ocean like marine photographers, biologists, and scientists use underwater digital cameras to film and study marine life. The photographers sell their videos and make a good living from it, the scientists use them to study and learn more about the creatures they are interested in. You are more than likely in none of those categories, probably like me, you are just a lover of the water. I thoroughly enjoy being able to bring back evidence of what I have seen underwater with a camera.

Pentax Optio W60 Waterproof 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Capture Your Underwater Memories With An Underwater Digital Camera

When you are looking for an underwater digital camera you must realize that they are rare and hard to find. Cameras as a rule, being electronic, can't take the high pressure associated with depths reached in diving even if they are waterproof. What you will find in most cases is a specialized casing produced specifically for a digital camera to be used underwater which in essence will turn your regular digital camera into an underwater one.

Using a camera underwater is quite a bit different than shooting on dry land. Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind to get the best results from your underwater photography experiences.

underwater polar bear 2925 Capture Your Underwater Memories With An Underwater Digital CameraLight is diffused more and more the deeper you dive so the images you are filming will be darker than what you would have above water. Using white balance will help with this and also give you more natural colors. Another thing to remember is that your pictures will end up larger due to the magnification effect underwater so bear this in mind when filming. Also be sure not to use a built in flash as this will cause your pictures to be blurry, use an external one instead.

Test your camera before diving with it by submerging the camera within its waterproof case in water for a few seconds and checking to see if there are any leaks in the protective underwater case. Take special precautions that you don't get so much as a hair or a grain of sand in the seal area because if you do I assure you the case will leak.

You can get optional lenses for your digital camera that will help you take better pictures; especially essential are the Macro lenses that will allow you to get close up shots without scaring away your subject.

When you finish your dive or snorkel trip always rinse off the case good and set it out to dry, especially if you have been in saltwater.

Underwater digital cameras

s">Underwater digital cameras are immaculate choice for getting wide angle shooting even in low lighting conditions. Taking pictures from this will not create blurred images with bad edges, while at the same time if anyone is shooting with a digital camera, he will get crisp and crystal clear pictures.

Advantages of underwater digital cameras over traditional cameras

Traditional camera works on the shutter speed of 1/60th to 1/250th per second while in underwater digital camera; one can experience the speed of 1/800th of a second. So in light shallow water where traditional camera proves almost ineffectively, these underwater digital cameras will continue their work surprisingly without any fuzzy impression in images. These really enrich the users with great speed especially when anyone wants to capture fast moving action underwater. Underwater digital cameras are lightweight and small comparatively and often provide high resolution photographs. For getting instant improvement in picture quality captured through underwater digital cameras, one can use Adobe Photoshop to sharpen the pictures.

Underwater digital camera

For capturing funny and wacky moments of life, here is an extensive list of underwater digital cameras. Since cameras are electronic devices and can not endure water pressure, some casing techniques for underwater digital cameras have been also made available to get familiar with underwater life.

Few tips for getting quality pictures from underwater digital cameras

Underwater digital cameras often produce darker images because as one moves further underwater, light diffuses to a great extent. For getting superb quality images even underwater, one should always use white balance settings of the digital camera. This will result into larger images with similar zoom effects as that of captured on land. Also determine the accurate picture angle and size of picture before clicking for brighter and sharp images.

default Underwater digital camera

A phenomenon of Marine show is also caused by underwater digital cameras because of its built in flash. The overall result is fuzzy and bad pictures. Some white particles also float above the pictures. To avoid all this, it is recommended to use external flash for getting accurate and exact view of any image. Before making use of underwater digital cameras, plunge it into water for a while to check that if any leakages in casing occurs. Even a single piece of hair or sand should not be left between the seal as it could cause the leakage of water.

For maintaining the sharpness and brightness of pictures, it is advisable that some silica gel should be placed in between the seals to avoid any obstacle in the operation of underwater digital camera. After using it, it should be washed off to remove all salt to avoid the danger of crystallization of it.

Some excellent waterproof underwater digital cameras are made available in the market, but they are not water proof in true sense as water may interrupt the operation of digital cameras. Various leading camera brands have launched their underwater digital cameras in market, you can also purchase those through online shopping.
